I'm goin'

To Disneyland!  Yesterday, my mom and I had coffee together, and she brought up spring break.  I've been wanting to plan SOMETHING for spring break, so we're not all ready to kill each other before it's over, but was waiting to see what the weather might be like.  We thought of going camping, going to the ocean for a night, or whatever.  Later, I got a call from my mom's cell, and she left this URGENT message, and needed me to call her back, right then.  She was at the travel agent, and was booking a trip for my family and my brother's, and her and my stepdad, to go to Disneyland for three nights over spring break.  How AWESOME is that?!  The boys went with my mom and stepdad for two nights, the July before last, and I haven't been since I was 12.  Coach has never been, because they had 8 kids in their family and couldn't do that without going insane and broke.  So anyway, we're really excited! 

This has been kind of a boring week, with me working one day out of the week.  I helped out in Alex's class for three days, testing kids on the computer for literacy and reading, then yesterday, I took a break.  I have another break today, and am planning to go and pick up my necklace and ring that were getting fixed (Candy broke the necklace with her claws when we were playing and the ring was getting sized) at the mall, then maybe have lunch with C before she has to go pick up the kids.  I'm making Coach take T to basketball practice tonight, since he's off, and he doesn't get the pleasure of going to practice nearly enough.  T had a game last night, and he did really well.  He's not aggressive by nature, so it's hard for him to get out there and steal the ball, etc. without taking turns.  He got three rebounds, and was really going for it.  Alex had basketball practice on Tuesday (both kids did), and he's rocking too.  His first game was last week, and he took the ball all the way down the court and scored his first basket!  I like watching them, but basketball is just not my favorite sport.  I like watching pro and college football, and baseball, and I love watching Alex play soccer, but basketball is just so NOISY and busy-I get overwhelmed and have to tune out after awhile if the kids aren't in the game.  I can't wait for baseball to start!  I so miss sitting out there, enjoying warm evenings, and keeping score, plus, of course, visiting with friends!  Which leads me to...

WTF?!

SNOW?  Last week, it was 60 degrees, several days in a row, and I was ready to bust out the lawn furniture and pack the trailer.  Now, it's 31 and snowing.  Crayzee.  I guess I'll make the best of it and hope that school is delayed so we can sleep in!

Once again

It's come to the point where, when I have a day off, I get a million phone calls a day, asking me to do this or that, or call this person or that person, or run my forgotten phone over, or go to Costco and get the ipod touch that I saved my grade money for, or go pick me up some lunch and bring it to my work place.  To all this, I say, HELL NO.  I will do what I need to do, and if I have time to call someone, I will, but I'm not everyone's errand girl, and it's not going to take up my entire day.  It's amazing how people think they can plan my days, and it's not gonna happen!  I have enough to keep me busy right here at home.  So...read any good books lately?  I've been trying to get some good ones together, so if anyone has any suggestions, please, leave a comment.  Also, I really need some new ideas for easy dinners that my kids will like...besides McDonalds-that's cheating!

Bits and pieces

It seems like a lot of little thoughts are running through my head lately (what else is new), so here is a sampling...

>WTF is up with the chick and the octuplets?  I can't wrap my head around someone wanting to do that to themselves, and those poor kids.  How are they going to have any kind of a future?  I hope that someone steps in and rescues them before they have a crappy life.  No one, and I mean no one, can give that many kids individual attention, and the quality of life that they deserve with the mental state that that woman has.

>Why was that other lady allowed to keep a huge chimpanzee as a pet?  ICK!  I bet her house stunk really bad.  I so hate monkeys-they creep me out, and why, oh why, would someone want one as a pet? Chimps are known to be mean, and when I was reading about it on Queen Sized Funny Bone, it just made me want to write about it.Why?

>I am feeling every year of my 41 years lately.  I have so many aches and pains!  When I was about 13, my horse fell on me when I was crossing the street (we were hell raisers on our horses-we'd ride miles every day, all over the place...the good old days, when our parents didn't have to worry) and ever since, my knee hurts when the weather is cold or damp.  My wrists and fingers are achy-probably a little arthritis starting or something, and I've had headaches off and on since I was a teenager.  It sucks!

>We went snowboarding with the kids on Monday.  It was their first time, and they both took lessons.  We were a little apprehensive about Alex choosing to snowboard instead of ski, because it's harder, and 7 is the first year that you can take lessons. HE LOVED IT!!! T did too, but Alex was the one asking to go back right away.  He's really coordinated, so he just did super well.  T is getting the hang of it, but he's more cautious than Alex...just his personality!  I had forgotten how much WORK it is to get ready to go out on the slopes.  The ski area closed one of their rental shops for lunch, right during the busiest time before lessons, so it was a madhouse in there.  The rentals were included in lesson fees, so everybody was in there trying to get their stuff before the lessons started.  There were the rudest parents and kids in there!  This really tall lady with an austrian (or something) accent kept cutting in different lines, and pretending that it was an accident.  I told her, at one point, that the line was way back there, and another lady did too, and she just kept right on going.  Finally, we exchanged looks (the other commenter and I) and her little girl piped up with, "Excuse me, the line starts BACK HERE!"  The lady turned around, and said, "Ohhhh, is dis de liiine?"  It was funny.

>Most competitive leagues have started practices, and we are kind of in limbo right now.  Our league is really pulling some stunts, and a lot of people are unhappy about it and are pulling out.  We are choosing to move on to a competitive division of our area parks and rec district.  The other league is letting different people get away with taking players from other teams again-ours included-and telling others that they have to do it by the book.  The league is probably cut in half now, because so many have left.  I hope they learn from it, and maybe we can return if they get it together.  Alex's division was traded to the parks and rec district in exchange for a promise of better field schedules...bribery if you ask me!  I think it may be a low key year, and that's okay.

>Alex is doing basketball now, and he loves it. T is still doing basketball too, and is almost done.  It's been a good thing, and he has had a good time.  I was happy that he decided to play, and it's been fun for him.

>My long term job has ended, and I have some downtime lately.  Yesterday I worked, at Alex's school, because someone was sick. It's been nice to have a job when I want, and say no when I want a day off.

>My tire has a big old screw in it, and I have to get it fixed.  I hope it doesn't go flat before I get to the shop!

Sooo, after much moaning and groaning (all night.  sounded like i was sleeping with a 90 year old man, seriously), he went to work.  I did have to endure many phone calls to update his status during the day, like how he forgot the ibuprofen bottle on the counter (I think it was a hint for me to bring it over to him, which, I didn't...mean wife), and how it feels like a razor blade is in his throat, and should he go to the emergency room to see if he has pneumonia.  Yes, sure, have Jason (co-worker) drive you there.  I mean, his lungs don't even sound congested.  He also had many suggestions, as usual, to keep me busy today, like have I called the lady about the grant from the city to get a new furnace, and have I called the subfinder to see if my old job is off of there and if not, could they remove it.  Politely, in my head, I was giving him the finger!  Tomorrow is my birthday, and I am not answering the phone!

Say it ain't so

Okay, I was SOOOOOOO excited that I am done with my assignment and am going to take a week off.  I am looking forward to a week to just take care of things around here without someone around.  Now?  Husband is sick.  I knew something was going to happen...and now, he's SOOOOO, so sick, achhhhyyyy bones, soooore throat, Coouughhhing...of course these are his ways of saying these hooorrrrible symptoms.  Pray for me.  Pray that he gets better before morning and can go to work, or someone may die.

Where do I start?

I am officially a bad blogger...it's been forever since my last post, and I do apologize to my two readers!  Things around here have been pretty dull and boring.  Same old, same old, really.  I'm still working with the same kid, although he is being moved to a behavior oriented special ed classroom at a different school.  I'll probably be with him until Monday, if he starts the new school, so tomorrow may be my last day.  I can totally see why this kind of a gig has a high burnout rate.  It's a rewarding job, when I feel like I'm doing it well, but it's also very mentally draining when it's not a good day.  This kid's issues are not only adhd, but also O.D.D., and some bipolar mixed in, so his days are pretty unpredictable.  He does like me, so that helps a lot, and we pretty much see eye to eye about most things.  His teacher and him clash sometimes, and it's not helping him at all-for example, yesterday, while I was at lunch, he got into an argument with her and called her a bitch, flipped her off, and told her to shut up.  He's never disrespected me that way, and I'm happy for that!  He was sent home, so I had a short day.  My mom took Alex after school, so T and I had a chance to have some time alone.  We went and had his snowboard bindings put on, and exchanged his saxophone reed holder, since I bought a clarinet one instead (who knew there were different CASES, for god's sake).  It was so nice, though, to be able to spend some time with him and really talk.  He's growing up so fast, and sometimes we clash over stupid teenage attitude things, so we needed some fun.  This weekend we're going to the casino for my birthday on Sat., then out to dinner on Sun. with the family.  I'm taking Tuesday off for my actual birthday, and my mom and I are going to go to lunch, maybe buy some shoes, and I need some new clothes for work.  I need some down time and a break from working, doing basketball practices, and housework so I'm looking forward to it!  What are y'all up to?
